The Big Apple, Home of The New York Yankee’s and the home of
great American pizza. New York City homes a large host of people from almost
every ethnical background you could possibly think of, and it’s probably for
this reason they have the most amazing selection of food to choose from on just
about every corner. Aside from great pizza and fresh bagels you can get in the
early morning hours, there is just so much more you can do there, or that will
have you wanting to at least travel if not live there by the end of this
article. It was during some casual reading that I came across and article from
Mr. Anatoly Nirshberg that really had a visual painted in my head and had me
yearning to visit this vast city of activity.
You see, it’s only there that you can learn so much without
even really having to speak to anyone or attend an educational institute. As we
know people from other parts of the country came to New York around the time of
The Great Depression in attempts to start a new life, as this was a place where
they were told anything was possible and your dreams will come true. That’s
still partially true today even with inflation of prices and the higher cost of
living and surviving. It’s during any given day that someone can enter NYC and
as you follow the long streets through the massive amount of blocks that you’ll
come across restaurants, pubs, dine-in’s, and mom and pop restaurants of every
kind and ethnicity that you can think of. While on one street you may encounter
authentic Italian pizza, on the other may be Gyro’s or bagels from the Jewish
community.
The food isn’t the only thing having a great effect on the
visitors who venture to the Big Apple. In fact, many of the citizens of this great
city have even taken steps forward in efforts to make the city look less down
trodden for the years and still have that same welcoming and inviting feeling
to it. Some city buildings and walls were littered with graffiti and thanks to
local habitants of the city, they have painted beautiful murals that cover up
the grotesque vandalism that many buildings used to have on them. Volunteers
have even started growing local vegetable gardens and started recycling
campaigns to help give back to the community and those who are lesser
fortunate.
Through the years NYC has been given kind of a bad
reputation for violence and for crime and corruption. What hasn’t been focused
on is the great things the city offers, or the ways in which it can give back
to those who live there. There is just so much to do for anyone who visits
including the Bronx Zoo and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There are still
local farms that allow children and schools to visit with family and friends in
which they can pick pumpkins during the fall months.
